LOMBARDY
After beeing invading Italy by the barbarian tribe
in the 6th century AD, the region was named after the Lombards
or Longobards. Lombardy was part of the Holy Roman Empire
during the Middle Ages.
In
the 12 century, it is the beginning of raising the power that
the brutal imperialism of Frederick Barbarossa for counting was
founded by the Lega Lombarda or Lombard League.
Then
it was seized by the regions's great and notable famillies like
the Visconti and the sforza of Milan who became great/genious partron
of the art, commissioning exquisite palaces, churches and artwork,
which can still be seen.Bergamo, Mantova, and Gremona contain a
remarkable art of treasures.
The
charterhouse at Pavia, Leonardo da Vinci's Last Supper shows pinnacles
of European civilization and the magnificent paintings of the Pinacoteca
di Brera in Milan. Also Lambardy is the famous birthplace of Virgil,
Monteverdi, Stradivarius, and Donizetti. Today, it also offers the
contrasting pleasures of lyrical lakeside landscapes for the visitors. |
